New Dutch Horizons at Schiphol Airport
December 2024 - June 2025

In commission for Schiphol and WINK the work ‘Night Eye’ (2024) was created for New Dutch Horizons, a 200 meter long illuminated art installation at Schiphol Airport, Lounge 1, on show until June 2025.

19 Dutch artists have reflected on the theme and made a work especially for this installation, which also features an audiotour about the works and artists.

For ‘Night Eye’ the Eye Filmmuseum (Amsterdam) was captured at night with a large format analog camera, with the full moon, and a few minutes of exposure time. All details are visible up close in the 2.4 x 5 meter long print (number 13).

The intention is to relocate the works at Schiphol after the exhibition closes, and the works will remain part of the art collection.

Satijn Panyigay works with uninhibited spaces, architecture, and seeming emptiness. The series Soft Solace (Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen) is an offspring of the ongoing project Twilight Zone that reveals empty exhibition spaces of leading Dutch museums. Made at the request of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam, NL), the works of Soft Solace show the museum’s building during one of the major stages of its renovation — the removal of toxic asbestos materials. In the resulting images, the light shines unabated, the iconic architectural forms appear in nakedness. Works from Soft Solace might seem dynamic, yet silence is at their core.
